Gilbert Cellars Unoaked Chardonnay 2009
Tom and I both had checks in self-control throughout our school years. Apparently, neither one of us were any good at finding the balance between having fun and being serious. And while we would argue that "being serious" all the time also displays a certain lack of control (check!), those kids didn't receive check marks in that column, every quarter, every year.
So we aren't entirely clear on how this wine can be both crisp and smooth. Our experience says an unoaked Chardonnay will be one or the other, rarely both.
This one pulls it out. Crisp and smooth. It enjoys the balance and so did we. Completely lovely in taste and presentation. And although it was presented to us for review, it retails for about $17. Nice, that. Perfect control.
